I was so lucky to meet Katrina and Jay through another couple we worked with a year ago, Jessica and Jeff. When I think of Katrina and Jay, the term character always comes to mind. Strong, sweet, happy, and balanced. When I am around them, I learn a little bit more by observing their amazing character.
When I spoke with Katrina on the phone on the morning of her wedding, it was pouring rain. “So, if I might get wet,” Katrina said. Calm. Collected. Cool. In the middle of the storm. That’s Katrina and Jay.
I didn’t hear one ounce of a complaint from the couple, even as Jay helped carry the band equipment in the rain … while dressed in his shirt and tie. Katrina and Jay awesome. They knew what the day was all about — vows and celebration.
Their venue is nestled in the trees and beautiful sculptures at Umlauf Sculpture Garden, which is a just a jump, hop and skip away from Austin’s Zilker Park. Every time I visit the Umlauf Sculpture Gardens, I find a new favorite statue.
Katrina’s dress fit perfect among the simple beauty of the statues of the gardens. When I saw Katrina’s dress, I immediately thought of Grace Kelly. In fact, I think I said, “It’s a Grace Kelly dress!” I love gowns with sleeves, and Katrina had such a classic, beautiful off the shoulder look. She wore it perfectly, along with her white ballet flats. Katrina’s character, beauty, and style go hand-in-hand — classic.
Although the rain cleared just before their ceremony, the wet grounds posed a problem for their outdoor ceremony, so they were married inside the beautiful, round room of the Umlauf. I love the expansive windows that span the room, and give the view of the greenery outside.
A few family members are in a band, J Ricker Band, and they did an amazing job, and played such a variety of great music for the wedding. I love to hear music that isn’t played at every wedding, and the band really brought variety.
Here are a few of our favorite images from the day. Please feel free to leave a comment!
