Towards the end of their wedding reception, Keithly had her arms thrown around Joe’s neck, and he had his hands held tightly around her waist. They were swaying and singing to each other during Joe Purdy’s song “Balcony/Green Eyes.” (I’ve since purchased the song on iTunes, and I’ve listened to it non-stop … including right now as I’m typing this blog post.)
When I was photographing this, I was completely taken back by their palpable love for each other. More than anything though, I could sense a deep reverence for each other. For whatever reason, when I was photographing them, I thought of Robert Capa’s saying, “If your pictures aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough.” (This quote has a deeper meaning of also being close emotionally.) I thought about this quote, and how I, too, have gained a sense of deep respect for Keithly and Joe during our time working together. (See their engagement session here.) I have to admit that I teared up when I was photographing them, and I had to step behind the DJ’s table to wipe a few tears.
Keithly and Joe, congratulations! Thank you for letting us be a part of your wedding day!
