I’ve been obsessed with behind-the-scenes moments since I started making pictures. When I worked at the El Paso Times, I begged and pleaded my way backstage or in the locker room because that was where the most intimate moments took place. There is something very special about preparation time — it’s where people shake off their nerves and spend quiet moments with their closest friends.

On Shelly and Andy’s wedding day, I spent a few moments with groomsmen as they were waiting to line up for the ceremony. After a few moments, I noticed Andy pacing the room. Not a fast walk — but a little stroll. Back and forth. Back and forth. Back and forth. (You’ll see Andy mid-pace in the photo above with his groomsmen.) Meanwhile, the groomsmen were playing “Too Legit To Quit” on their iPhones, and negotiating last minute adjustments for their tuxes and uniforms.

What was Shelly doing? Shelly and her bridesmaids were cooking breakfast and giving tips on getting into a formal dress properly. (Here’s the trick to get into a dress: Bend at the waist while a friend zips you into your dress. It works like a charm.)

This was our first time photographing at the University Presbyterian Church, and the tall stained-glass windows were mesmerizing. It set the tone for this classic, timeless wedding. The Barr Mansion was as lovely as always, and I was excited to get a quick portrait with Shelly and Andy by the fountain with all of the beautiful candles.

Shelly and Andy, thank you for letting us document your wedding day. Thank you to all of the amazing vendors!
