I recently dug this photo story out of the photo archives to show a friend.
This was a story I did when I worked as a staff photographer for the El Paso Times, and this story was published April 2006. (How quickly time has gone!)
The story focused on Dominick, and his daily life with Asperger’s Syndrome. I spent many hours with Dominick’s family, and I sometimes wonder how Dominick is doing. (His father was in the military, and I have been unable to find them since they relocated.)
Dominick’s parents talked about how Dominick would go to college in the future, and how his Asperger’s Syndrome wouldn’t hold him back. I hope to one day find Dominick’s family, so I can do a follow-up story on him. His parents did anything and everything they could for Dominick, as they did for all of their three boys.
There was so much depth to the story that we weren’t able to publish, but these are some of my favorite images. (For all the hard core photojournalists out there, I know this story isn’t a tight edit … and it could be tighter…)
Anyhow, this story is very near and dear to my heart. So, I thought I’d share it here on my little ‘ol blog.
